12A. CLIMBS - Part 1
Climbs strengthen a child's arms, develop balance, and teach the youngster to hold on. They prepare a child to climb a real tree.
Climbs present a goal which a young child can reach. They require work and yield a high sense of achievement.
KNEE HIGH
The child climbs up onto the adult's knees and stabilizes by resting his or her hands on the adult's shoulders.
PULL UP
The adult's hands give the child something to hang onto as the child "walks up" onto the adult's shoulders.
The adult should raise his or her hands as the child advances, so that the child can continue to pull up.
Do this play with light children under five.
MOUNTAIN CLIMB
The child climbs up one side of the mountain and down the other side.
STAIRCASE
This staircase has three steps.
PYRAMID
UP THE FRONT
The child walks up the adult's front all the way to the shoulders.
After resting on top, the child should climb down, too.
