7. CARRIES
FRONT CARRY
Carries are familiar to every parent and child. They are the first learned and most important of all Family Plays.
A two year old child can be very particular about just how he or she wants to be carried. Knowing names for the different carries will help your children specify their wishes.
The front carry is generally the most popular. It is the one to use if you want to "dance" with a young child.
BACK CARRY
This move is as ancient as the back pack itself.
SHOULDER CARRY
The shoulder carry is useful at parades and fairs to prop the child up so he or she can see over other spectators.
FIREMAN'S CARRY
The Fireman's carry is used to bring people down a ladder, because it leaves one hand free to hold the ladder.
ARM and LEG CARRY
The arm and leg carry is used for carrying injured people.
CROSS ARM CARRY
The child's arms go over the adult's shoulders and cross in front of his chest. The adult holds the child's hands. This carry is not very comfortable, but it is a good way for one man to transport an unconscious person.
